The match concludes with the Touto Boys' victory. During the last inning, Hikaru bumps his neck on Daigo's body while trying to catch a fly ball.
The day after the match, Daigo goes to Hikaru's mom's house to see how he is faring. There he meets Toshiya, who says Hikaru's neck was severily injured by their bump, and now he can't move his body. After hearing this, Daigo decides to give up on baseball.
Two months later, the sixth-years all graduate and leave the Mifune Dolphins. At the same time, Goro Shigeno returns to Japan.
Goro and Toshiya set up a meeting for Daigo and Hikaru to talk things through. After finding out that Hikaru is going through rehabilitation and will walk again, Daigo regains his will to play baseball.
Daigo graduates from his school and joins Fuurin Middle with Mutsuko Sakura.
Daigo and Mutsuko meet Akira Nishina and his cronies from the Nanyou Lions for the first time.
After Nishina and his cronies start disrespecting Fuurin's baseball club, Daigo challenges them to a small baseball standoff.
