History[]

Junior

A younger Junior

Joe Gibson Jr. lived with his father, mother and baby little sister in America before moving to Japan. After the deadball incident, Jr.'s family life was torn apart due to his father's heavy burden and strife for redemption. He was constantly picked on by his elementary classmates, and his mother and little sister leaving the family. During Gibson's third year in Japan, Laura and Mellisa were killed in a car accident, which later drove a bad turn for Jr. He began to resent his father and Shigeharu for the loss of his mother and little sister.

During Goro's arrival to America, Joe Gibson Jr. targets Goro as another figure of resentment, being the son of the Japanese baseball player who broke up his family.

When his team finally faces the Memphis Bats, he realizes that his father had always watched his games and begins to lose his hate towards Goro. After Goro's team wins, Junior apologizes to Goro and is willing to go to Japan to apologize in front of Shigeharu's grave. Goro declines the gesture and the two are met by Joe Gibson, who compliments both of them and looks forward to them coming to the Majors. Goro and Junior then begin a more friendly rivalry.
