The Baseball Club Starts! is the 29th episode of the MAJOR anime, and 3rd episode of the 2nd season. It was aired on December 24, 2005.
List of Characters[]
Summary[]
This episode retells a very abridged version of the Mifune West storyline from the manga. Here, the Mifune East has a match against the Mifune West team and win by 5-4 after Goro intervenes. The players shown here are those from the revenge match, but the match itself is a retelling of the first one with an original ending.
Manga and Anime Differences[]
This is a very convoluted episode and many things were cut from the manga version of the conflict between Mifune East and Mifune West. Goro visiting his father's grave in chapter 131 was moved to the next episode. Also from chapter 131, the scene with Momoko and Shigeno at their home and the one where Komori and Oobayashi try to give up on the match were cut. The scenes from chapter 132 where the coach from Mifune West berates his players were cut. On chapter 134, everything after Goro strikes out three Mifune West players was cut out. The only thing adapted from chapter 135 is the training section. Goro leaving the football club was cut out from chapter 135 in the adaptation. The storyline were Muta and Oikawa leave the team and Yamane convinces them to get back by training for one more week from chapters 135 and 136 was also entirely ommited from the anime. Shimizu is also not present during this match in the manga, so her appearance here is original to the anime. She is, however, present during the second match, albeit under a different circumstance. Goro's flashback with Hideki is the only adapted scene from chapter 139, everything else was cut from the anime. Chapters 137, 140, 141, 142 and 143 were completely left out of the anime adaptation, as such, the second Mifune West game is not present in the anime. A scene from chapter 138 is adapted in a later episode. Another difference here is that the lineup for the Mifune West team is the one from the rematch. In the anime adaptation, the first lineup from Mifune West is never introduced. As a last note, Toshiya finding out that Goro is back in Mifune happens later in the manga, but as the reordering of events shown in this episode was so big, it actually fits in the story, since the only thing between the first Mifune West game and Toshiya's discovery is the cut game and Shigeno's retirement story.
