Akira Nishina is the new deuteragonist appearing in the Fuurin Middle Arc of the MAJOR 2nd manga.

Akira was the ace pitcher of the Nanyou Lions team, who enrolled into Fuurin Middle School with Kazuki Sugawara, Takumi Chiba, Sota Kitaoji and Yusuke Umemiya through athletic scholarship by their manager. They joined the baseball club through the initiation match between boys vs. girls. Unlike the other four, only Akira had the recommendation to enroll into Fuurin without tuition. An ironic disappointment for Akira as the only one to stay in the baseball club, while the others left due to their guardians' decision after their manager left unnoticed.[1]
Despite initially not enjoying his time on a team of nearly all girls, Nishina grows to accept them as his teammates after seeing their performance in games against good teams. He accepts Daigo as captain after his efforts to fill in as a makeshift coach after his former coach Kunamoto refuses to take the role.
Despite having brought Chiba back to the team, he agrees that Chiba's arrogance will only hurt the team in the long run and goes along with the idea of bringing Chisato's sister on. However, he was uneasy taking advantage of her feelings for this purpose.
